About Deji Adekunle

My Background

I am a multidimensional professional who deploys a mixed skillset to solving societal challenges. I have worked in the journalism and journalism support ecosystem, the civic space, tech, business advisory and impact investing spaces. Over the past decade, I have helped build start ups, launch innovative programs, spoken on international stages and trained scores of professionals at different stages of their career in the public and private sector. I currently work with MDIF as the Program Director for the Nigeria Media Innovation Program.

My Passion

I love Christ and Humanity! I also believe in the agency of the individual and the amazing things that can happen when we co-create. We just need to unlock our capabilities with the right knowledge!

My Career Story

I graduated from University with a double honors degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. Afterwards, I got a Post Graduate Diploma in Information Technology.

I began my career as a network engineer and then as a public procurement analyst (thanks to my youth service). I then had stints in a consulting start up, a non profit community movement. Finally, I got into Journalism via the Nigerian media platform, Premium Times as a Data Journalist. Not long after I joined, I began to do much more work in program management and to implement developmental programs around the media and the civic space. Most of this work , I did while at the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (formerly Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism). After years of service, I took on the same challenge of supporting the Nigerian media ecosystem in a different way. Focusing on it's sustainability. This characterizes most of the work I currently do as the country lead at MDIF.
